If you want a hybrid, Proctor Honda should be your first stop. You can choose between the 2019 Honda Insight, the 2018 Honda Clarity and the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid. This comparison can get you started toward the right Honda hybrid for you.

Performance

The Clarity powertrain generates 181 horsepower. The electric system allows this plug-in to drive for up to 47 miles without using any gas. Then it can earn 44 mpg city, 40 mpg* highway, and 110 mpg-equivalent overall. With a driving range of 600 miles, the Honda Accord Hybrid has good gas mileage and excellent horsepower. The hybrid powertrain kicks out 212 horsepower. Although it doesn’t plug in like the Clarity, it has a two-motor electric system to assist the four-cylinder engine. With 197 pound-feet of torque, the Insight driver can feel confident. The powertrain is rated for 151 horsepower, and it has the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. Gas mileage is a remarkable 55 mpg** city.

Regenerative Braking

To recapture energy, the Insight has regenerative braking, but it also has the ability to switch to mechanical braking. On the other hand, there are four modes of regenerative braking on the Clarity and Accord Hybrids. The systems are different but the intent is the same. In each instance, the brakes actually supply energy that can help keep the battery charged.

Style and Size

The Accord Hybrid has the biggest cabin and a best-in-class 16.7-cu.ft. trunk. However, the other two aren’t small. Insights benefit from ergonomically sculpted seats. These hybrids have best-in-class legroom. As hatchbacks, they offer more utility. Only an inch shorter than the Honda Accord, the Clarity sedan is bigger than many of its electric rivals. Its trunk measures more than 15 cubic feet. Honda uses a bio-fabric to cover the Clarity’s seats in a rich black or ivory white. Considered a premium electric car, it comes with heated seats and a full audio display. Insights have a high quality interior as well. Drivers will like the soft-touch instrument panel. Accord Hybrids are richly furnished with a menu of favorite amenities. All three have a touch screen and a rearview camera. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay expand connectivity.

Honda Sensing

If safety is your main concern, all three have your needs covered. Honda Sensing is standard. An autobrake will respond to threats that are detected by a forward collision warning. A lane assist will help the driver maintain the right trajectory, and a lane departure warning will sound if the car is breaching the line without a turn signal. If the car tries to go off the road, road departure mitigation will signal the driver, reduce the car's speed and even help steer it back to safety. With all of these systems, Honda hybrid drivers can stay out of harm's way.
