Throughout its history, the Honda Civic has been a bestseller thanks to its affordable price tag, good fuel efficiency, and passenger-friendly interior. Today, there are a total of six different sedan trims, and most of these can be purchased as a hatchback as well. There's even coupe versions, so the buyer has more choices than ever before. The 2018 models offer plenty of customization and package options, particularly the EX and Si trims.
The EX is a slight upgrade from the base trim, and the Civic Si is a more performance-minded version. If you are of the sporty mind, you'll definitely want to check out the latter. It comes with many of the same features as the EX trim, but it's designed for better handling and a more favorable driver experience.
The 2018 Honda Civic EX sedan or hatchback is powered by 2.0L, four-cylinder engine that makes 158 horsepower. Unlike the base trim, the EX comes with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) as standard equipment. It's important to distinguish this powertrain from the EX-T version, which comes with a turbocharged 1.5L engine. The performance-minded Honda Si version is fitted with an upgraded version of the engine powering the EX-T. This 1.5L turbocharged engine is rated at 205 horsepower, somewhat more powerful than the version found in the EX-T. The only transmission offered on the Si version is a six-speed manual. Acceleration on the Civic Si is better than most competing models with similar powertrains, with the vehicle going from a full stop to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds.
The Civic EX for 2018 has 16-inch wheels and standard front and rear suspension systems. Antilock brakes are also standard. The CVT simulates shifts under hard accelerations, and there's very little hesitation or gear range hunting, something that owners often experience with other models. The 2018 Civic Si is designed with performance in mind. This version has sport-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers, a limited-slip front differential, and larger front brakes. It also features a unique rear spoiler not found on other Civic trims. Handling is superb, stopping distance is remarkable, and steering is very precise. All Honda Civic trims boast excellent body roll control, but the Si feels much more playful than the EX trim, and the stability system, the same one as found on the EX, is more responsive than what is experienced on the EX or other Civic trims.
The 2018 Honda Civic EX comes with a 7-inch screen interface, satellite radio, HondaLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and automatic climate control. The sunroof is also standard. The EX also features a rear center armrest with cupholders and a very nice eight-speaker sound system. If you want a rearview camera as standard equipment, the EX will fill your bill. The 2018 Civic Si version has similar standard features but comes with a unique instrumentation panel design made with faux carbon-fiber surfaces. It also comes with the same 10-speaker stereo system found inside the EX-T version. The seats are Si-branded, and the steering wheel is leather-wrapped.
