The 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid
Winner of the 2025 North American Car of the Year
Sedan: 50 city/47 highway/49 combined mpg* - Hatchback: 50 city/45 highway/48 combined mpg*
The 2025 Civic Hybrid powers up performance with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, an Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission (e-CVT) with Deceleration Selectors and a lithium-ion battery pack, producing a combined 200 horsepower** and 232 lb-ft of torque.
Why switch to Hybrid? Enjoy everything there is to love already about the Honda Civic now with a two-motor hybrid system and regenerative braking system designed to improve fuel economy and reduce long-term brake wear. Regenerative brakes work to recharge the hybrid battery through captured kinetic energy when the driver lifts off the accelerator otherwise lost on the average internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.
3-Mode Drive System: For a selection of driving experiences, switch from Normal mode to Sport mode for more immediate responsiveness to the accelerator or ECON mode for increased fuel efficiency, adjusting various systems to minimize energy consumption. A 4-mode system is available on the Sport Touring Hybrid trim that includes Individual mode, allowing drivers to customize various settings from other modes for a personalized driving experience.
Deceleration Selectors: Adjust the level of regenerative braking through steering wheel paddles. Four levels are available to control the amount of regenerative braking applied when decelerating potentially improving fuel efficiency by minimizing hard braking. Pulling the "minus" paddle decreases regenerative effects while the "plus" paddle increases them.
Note: In Sport Mode, regenerative braking will remain at the chosen level. In Normal and ECON Modes, it will return to the normal level.

Hybrid Vehicle FAQs
What is a hybrid vehicle?
The most common hybrid vehicle is a gas-electric hybrid, which has both an internal combustion engine (ICE) and an electric motor powered by batteries. These two power sources work together to enhance the vehicles's fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
How do hybrid vehicles work?
Hybrid electric vehicles are powered by an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors, which uses energy stored in batteries. A hybrid electric vehicle cannot be plugged in to charge the battery and is powered by gas like internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The battery is charged through regenerative braking and by the internal combustion engine.
How does a hybrid vehicle compare with ICE and electric vehicles?
ICE, Hybrid, and Electric vehicles all have key differences that may work for some and not for others depending on priorities and lifestyle. Electric vehicles have lower running costs and environmental benefits, while ICE vehicles have simpler maintenance and more power. Hybrid vehicles land somehwere in the middle offering good fuel economy with stop-start driving and minimal maintenance. All are worthy options to consider when choosing a vehicle with the features and specifications that will most suit you.
How long do hybrid vehicle batteries last?
Hybrid vehicle batteries do degrade over time, but are designed to last the lifetime of the car. Circumstances such as extreme heat exposure or lack of use may limit this duration. In addition, every Honda hybrid vehicle comes with an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty***.
How does the Honda Two-Motor Hybrid Electric System work?
The two-motor hybrid system works to seamlessly transition between electric and gas depending on driving conditions and speed. There are three driving modes; EV Mode allows for electric-only driving for shorter distances, Hybrid Mode utilizes both gas and electric for better fuel efficiency, and Gas Mode connects the engine directly to the wheels for efficiency at higher speeds.
